A Time for Change Has Come

What a difference a day makes. Twenty four hours ago we swore in the 44th president of the United States. How full of hope we are for the future. A new generation has taken the rains of power and with new energy and new ideas will change the world we live in. President Barack Obama has a long list of goals set forth for his administration. They include goals for those of us with disabilities too. He has set four major areas of concern. The first is to increase educational opportunities for children with disabilities. To broaden there horizons for a better life. Second to end discrimination and promote equal opportunity. He will move for changes in the Disabilities Act that will make it clearer and add enforcement to it. Third, he will increase the employment rate by requiring government contractors hire the disabled. Finally, He will support independent, community-based, living. This is one of the most important things that the administration is proposing, it will include support for visitablity in the construction of new homes. Also support for changes in local building code to allow for Universal Design features in new construction. I will be covering both visitability and Universal Design in my next two post. Until then Breathe Peace and God’s Love……………………………………………………..
